An attractive and leisurely walk that starts along the Water of Leith Walkway. Starting from Pentland View Car Park, we join the nearby Water of Leith walkway to walk eastwards to the Water of Leith Visitor Centre at Slateford (toilet and refreshments available here). Our 5 mile route follows the watercourse downstream, passing through Spylaw Park, and the green and scenic valleys of Colinton Dell, and Craiglockhart Dell. Arriving to the Water of Leith Visitor Centre, at the Slateford Viaduct, there is an option to finish the walk here/ return to the start/ travel home via public transport (Lothian Bus Service 44 to Pentland View, or Lothian Bus Services 20/34/36 east/ westbound are all nearby).
This walk is on paths and is generally flat and suitable for most abilities. However, please note there are some (8-10) steps on our route.
If you would like to join us, please contact the Walk Leader, by text or WhatsApp to book a place in advance, noting that for some walks places may be limited. Please advise the walk leader of any issue that may affect your ability to complete the walk, if you intend to travel independently to the start of the walk, and/or if you are willing to drive/car share from the meeting point.
Also, if you have one, please remember to bring your ICE card with you on the walk; or, if you don’t have one, a note of your proposed emergency contact name and number will be required in case of emergency.
Please note that, unfortunately, dogs are not welcome on our walks.
All finishing times are approximate.
