This is a perfect winter walk with beautiful views across the Tweed valley.
From Kingsmeadows car park, we follow the riverside path. After crossing the A72, the route continues below the Peebles Hydro Hotel. We enter the forest at Janet's Brae and take the steep and rough path uphill through the trees to a wide forestry track. We follow this track for several miles, before turning right to follow a lovely path which meanders downhill through the trees towards Glentress bike shop.
Having passed Glentress bike shop, we take the path down to the A72, cross with care and then follow the path keeping Horsburgh Castle ruins on our left. We turn right at the quarry and enter Eshiels woodlands, following the Tweed Valley Railway Path back to Peebles.
The walk mainly follows a good forest track. Sometimes the track crosses bike trails, so walkers should take extra care. There is a steep incline at the beginning of Janet’s Brae and coming down to Glentress bike shop is also a bit steep, so hiking boots and poles are recommended. On the way back to the car park, along the River Tweed, there are a few gates. Please note that there are no public toilets at Kingsmeadows car park.
