The John Buchan Way was opened in 2003. It is named after the writer and diplomat John Buchan (1875-1940) who has many associations with the area.
The long-distance footpath between Broughton and Peebles is approximately 13 miles in length and travels through some of the Scottish Borders' remoter glens as well as higher ground with exceptional views. Although there are some fairly steep ascents the walking is generally easy going over a mixture of hill paths and tracks, in open moorland, woods and farmland.
The route has been split into two stages.
The second stage of the walk has a total ascent of 971 feet with two ascents. The first is fairly steep up the shoulder of White Knowe, the second a gradual traverse of Cademuir Hill with wonderful views of Broughton Heights and Peebles. There are 5 stiles.
We will stop for an open-air coffee and an alfresco lunch.
There are public toilets in Peebles and various cafes and pubs for refreshments.
If you are planning to come please let leader know by phone, text or email. Please advise if you will drive to Biggar for car sharing purposes or plan to meet group at the start point in Stobo or alternatively if you would prefer to meet the group in Peebles and get a lift to Stobo. This possibility will be dependent on the number of car owners available to share lifts.
