This walk takes in the byways of the quieter side of Knaresborough into the rolling fields and lanes north-east of the town. The route circles one of four artificial lakes, formed by old gravel workings, coverings two and a half square miles.
The total walk distance is approximately 6 miles and should take 2.5 to 3.5 hours to complete.
The walk is along flat open fields and footpaths, so there are no steep climbs. However, be aware that paths are extremely muddy due to recent weather, so good waterproof hiking boots are essential.
The starting point is outside the Mitre pub, right by the entrance to Knaresborough train station. Knaresborough has plenty of services from Leeds. The 10:06am service from Leeds arrives into Knaresborough at 11:00am.
Unfortunately dogs cannot be permitted due to the presence of sheep along the route.
There are no toilet facilities either along the route or at Knaresborough train station.
If arriving by car, Knaresborough has several car parks. The closest to the walk start point is at York Place (HG5 0AD), which is an 8 minute walk away and has fairly cheap all day parking.
