*** Please note earlier meeting time 09.30am ***
The start of the walk is located by the car park at the Old Village lakeside picnic area. This is also close to the location of the Giant Hand of Vyrnwy located in the woods where the river (Afon Cedig) flows into Lake Vyrnwy. Remnants of Wales's tallest tree, a Douglas Fir, were carved into the 50 foot Giant Hand created by artist Simon O'Rourke after the tree was significantly damaged in a storm.
After viewing the Giant Hand the route will follow the right hand side of Afon Cedig upwards for a short distance before joining the forest path, walking in the direction of the hotel, with great views of Lake Vyrnwy on the right.
The route consists of quiet lanes, forest and field paths with one steep path before descending back down to the hotel and then the Lake, and finally the sculpture park. The return journey to the Old Village car park will follow a lower route running "parallel" to the Lake.
Some sections of the walk will be along the lake road and there are a small number of stiles.
Walkers should be appropriately prepared for mud and wet paths should there be any downpours prior to the walk date as the forest paths can get extremely muddy. Walking poles, long trousers, sunscreen and extra water are recommended.
Please bring refreshments for coffee and lunch stops.
The walk leader will meet you at the START point.
ZONE C
IMPORTANT: Please note the starting point for this walk is not the usual starting point used for previous Lake Vyrnwy walks but is from the Lake Vyrnwy Old Village car park. Please see walk details for the location.
Toilets: Walkers may want to stop at the Llanwyddn village public toilets or cross the dam to the other public toilets before arriving at the starting point of the walk. Walkers should build in additional time to ensure they are at the start of the walk well before the actual start time. The route also includes a stop at the public toilets close to the dam.
