We meet in the car park at Launde Abbey (please note this is at the head of the overflow car park). First we head north on the Leicester Round provided that the field across the River Chater
does not have cows with calves or other dangers, in which case we will divert to a quiet
country lane. At Withcote Hall we turn right and head uphill heading generally westward
and ending on a ridge. Heading south from the ridge we then pass woods and descend into
the Chater Valley before heading uphill again as we pass Launde Park Wood to our right. We
then skirt the wood on its south side before crossing the road and passing through the
Launde Big Wood. We then take the quiet country lanes back to the Abbey (four vehicles
encountered on the first recce), over a steepish hill.
We are walking out of area for this one and would very much welcome walkers from other
groups to join us.
Aiming to return in time to order lunch at the Abbey café for those who wish to.
Journey time to Launde Abbey - 50 minutes (41 miles)
***Please book for this walk with the walk leader ideally 48 hours ahead as the Abbey
would like to know how many cars will be parked on site and a rough estimate as to how
many will be using the café at the end of the walk.***
***No dogs because sheep are expected to be grazing without fences in many places***
