Join us for a circular walk from the picturesque market town of Leyburn, known as the "gateway to Wensleydale."
The walk heads out towards Bolton Castle along the Leyburn Shawl (a famous limestone escarpment which offers spectacular panoramic views over Wensleydale) to Redmire. At Redmire, we cross the valley and return to Leyburn via the Bolton Estate and the village of Wensley.
The walk is undulating with a steady climb on the approach back up to Leyburn.
What to bring:
- Plenty of warm layers and waterproofs as the walk is exposed in places.
- Appropriate walking footwear, as there are sections which could be very muddy (if not frozen).
- Plenty of water and food.

🚌Unfortunately there are no realistic public transport options to get to Leyburn
🚻Public toilets are located on Railway Street, Leyburn (opposite the Sandpiper Inn). These cost 20p and they only accept coins (no change given).
🥪You will need to bring a packed lunch
🐶The walk is dog friendly, but there are some standard and squeeze stiles which may require the dog to be lifted over. All dogs must be kept on a lead for the entire walk, as there was a lot of livestock (primarily sheep who will be heavily pregnant at this time of year) on the route during the recce.
🍺At the end of the walk there are a few pub options to get a post walk drink.
⚠️Due to the more exposed conditions, we will be having two shorter lunch stops to try and avoid people from getting cold.
