Join us for a leisurely walk from Offham to West Malling and Ryarsh via St Leonard’s Tower and Manor Park Country Park. We’ll take a short break at West Malling churchyard, to hear how the 20th century renovations were paid for by the sale of The Malling Jug. On the return we'll pause at the 11th Century Kentish ragstone church at Ryarsh with its herringbone masonry.
This is a mainly flat walk across farmland and woodland paths with extensive views, including the chalk ridge of the North Downs Way. Three stiles.
Non-members are welcome as one of their three free Ramblers 'taster' walks. If you're new to our walks, please contact the walk leader beforehand to check that the walk will suit you.
Dogs on short leads are welcome.
The key to St Leonard's Tower was missing between 1973 and 2020 when it was returned to English Heritage. Hear the story of the lost key as we pass the Tower on this walk.
On Offham village green, we'll see and learn about the medieval quintain, believed to be the last remaining in England.
Nibble break at West Malling churchyard. Public toilets in West Malling High Street.
Refreshments after the walk: The Kings Arms, Offham (01732 870114 - essential to book if you would like lunch) or The Food Shed at Spadework (01732 870002).
