We are the East Cheshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.

We walk down to the river, through the town and follow Low Lea Road to the Roman Lakes, where Mellor Mill was sited in the 1800s. The route continues past Linnet Clough Scout Camp, Mellor Golf course, Knowle Wood, Knowle farm and across the fields to Mellor church, high on a hilltop, next to the remains of an Iron Age settlement. We will have a refreshment stop here. The route continues through fields past Sportsmans Farm to Smithy Lane. We walk up Smithy Lane, along Sandhill Lane and take paths across fields to Ernocroft Lane. We will stop for lunch in a convenient spot. We return to the start via Etherow Country park (Toilets) and Brabyns Park.
Please bring food and drink for coffee and lunch stops and ICE card.
On a fine day there are some lovely views.
It is likely to be muddy and wet in places. Gaiters and poles suggested. The walk includes some badly maintained stiles.
Accessible by bus/train to Marple Station.
Unlikely to return before 3.00 pm due to additional stop and stiles.

Brabyns Park Car Park, Marple Bridge, (on the LEFT hand side as you descend towards the Bridge crossing the River Goyt) Meet at Brabyns park CP (Pay & Display, Cash, card or Ringo), Marple Bridge. Suggest 5 hours minimum (£1.20). This is due to terrain and additional toilet stop.
