I was up against Hurricane Amy last time I offered this walk, so let’s hope for better weather!
Unfortunately, the larch wood on the way to Hangingstone Farm has had to be felled due to disease and is currently being replanted, so the beginning of the walk is not as scenic as before and very muddy.
Route: Hangingstone Farm; along the ridge if the weather is good, on the lower path if not; Back Forest; Lud's Church (Chasm); banks of River Dane; return along Dane Valley Way.
Please note: a lot of the ascent is at the beginning of the walk up towards Hanging Stone. The recce was extremely muddy, and it is tricky underfoot in places, so poles and gaiters are recommended. There are 4 wooden stiles and one stone squeeze stile in the first half hour of this walk but all the other stiles have now been replaced with gates.
Bring snack and drink for coffee stop.
Lifts available from Handforth (contact Melanie).
Unlikely to be back before 1.00 pm.
