The route is not as advertised on the Tri-fold leaflet primarily due to it being so muddy and impassable in places.
From Melrose Abbey Car park we will walk along the River Tweed to Newstead then down to the Leaderfoot viaduct. From there we will walk along the old railway line to cross the Melrose bypass. Its a gradual, easy climb then to Eildon village. We will then pass Eildon Hall to join the St Cuthberts Way up to the saddle of the Eildons. It's downhill from there until we reach the golf club then back to Melrose.
It will be muddy so bring poles if you use them. On the recent recce we also had to negotiate a very large puddle so again, if you have them, it might be helpful to wear gaiters. Bring food and drink for 2 stops
Grade: B. Boots and poles are recommended.
