Overview

West Mendip Walkers moderate 11 mile walk starting from the Castle Street Car park, Mere, Wiltshire. The route follows the Monarch's Way westwards joining the Wiltshire/Dorset border and into Somerset. Turning North we pick up the Stour Valley Way returning to Wiltshire, walking through a wonderful beach wood before arriving at the National Trust, Stourhead the world famous gardens - here we can enjoy our pack lunch, cafe and facilities. We then set off eastwards on the White Sheet Hill Trail to a Neolithic Camp where we can experience panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. From here we follow the Mid Wilts Way, southwards overlooking the Great Bottom on route to the start point at Mere. The route follows a number of quiet lanes, crosses two busy roads, through woodland and over open terrain. There are a few old wooden styles. Elevation 1250 ft. This walk has a few gentle climbs

There are a choice of pubs and a cafe in the town that we can choose to frequent on completion of the walk.
