The walk from Roslin passes the birthplace of Dolly the sheep to join a former railway line which crosses the spectacular Bilston Glen viaduct and leads to Loanhead. After paying our respects to the industrial legacy of the town, the route follows a path through fields, woods and a minor road to the remains of the Old Kirk of Lasswade and its interesting graveyard. We descend to the River North Esk and proceed upstream to inspect the famous ruin of Mavisbank House. Next is Polton village, the site of paper-making mills, now a country park. We return to Roslin using a path which initially (but briefly) rises steeply, before a more gentle final stretch.
