A 12 mile walk taking in the River Don floodplain and drains to the north of Doncaster. Starting at the Bentley Community Woodland, reclaimed site of Bentley Colliery, we walk through the woodland picking up TPT which we follow to Owston Grange, crossing the Smallholme and Tilts Drain. We then walk through fields, crossing the east coast main railway line using a level crossing, to Thorpe in Balne. A little bit of road walking then it's along the banks of Smallholme and Tilts Drain passing the site of the demolished Thorpe Marsh Power station. Leaving the drain we cross Fordstead Lane to Grumble Hurst and Fur Water Drains and the River Don. We then walk through Arksey Ings to the village of Arksey. Leaving Arksey we again cross the main east coast railway line followed by a short walk back to our start point.
The car park at Bentley Community Woodland was locked when I did the prewalk. If the car park is open it is free. There is plenty of road parking on The Avenue but please avoid parking in front of houses. No toilets or pub stop during the walk. Be aware if you bring a dog it will have to be lifted over the stiles by the east coast railway level crossing.
Walkers are reminded it is their responsibility to wear appropriate footwear/clothing, bring adequate food and drink and carry emergency contact details. Go to the Walks/Information for Walkers tab for more details.
