A walk with David around Middleton Moor via Hopton Quarries.
There are three stiles on this walk and a total overall ascent of 704 feet, which includes climbs in the first and third mile. The last mile and a half is flat, with a very steep good descent for the last half mile to the car park. We take the north path around Middleton Moor, which includes a path through a wilderness of Bracken, which should be dying down a bit by the time this walk takes place, if wet, it could be uncomfortable for some without protective clothing. Morning break at the former entrance to Hopton Quarries (two miles). Many good scenic viewing points on the way out and on the way back. Toilets at 4 miles. No cattle seen, sheep in many fields so dogs on leads please.
Risk Assessment First off, we cross over the busy B5035, near the entrance to the Stone Centre, take care, good sight lines. We enter Middleton village using the footways, crossing over to the other side when safe to do so. Plenty of foliage and undergrowth which may obscure Tripping hazards from view, take care. After our break, we cross and walk up the Hopton Road 250 yards, Keep tight right, be aware, this road, although wide, has a slight bend obscuring oncoming traffic and is used by large quarry lorries, going from both directions. At Arm Lees Farm, we recross and leave the roads behind us for the rest of the walk. Most paths have a limestone covering so maybe slippery if wet. 07918882152 my contact number whilst walking
