A 10 mile circular hike of two halves. Starting from the village of North Newbald we start with a short climb up Dot Hill, then we follow the Wolds until we briefly join the Yorkshire Wolds Way to the village of Sancton (from the top of the Wolds we get good views over East Yorkshire). From Sancton the route now stays relatively flat, first following farm tracks to Houghton Hall’s grounds, before we hike through the Houghton Moor woodland. Finally we follow a quiet country lane back to North Newbald.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be kept on a lead. We do cross the fairly busy A1034 twice, although this is at villages so the road is 30 mph and also we briefly cross a muddy cow field and fields with sheep.
