This day out combines a seven mile walk with a visit to a beautiful National Trust property. Starting from the pretty, historical town of Henley on Thames and its busy stretch of the river, we are soon out into undulating fields.
The first half of the walk takes us between abundant hedgerows, past grazing cows and quiet farmland until we reach Gray’s Court. This 16th century property has a series of delightful walled gardens, teeming with roses, a maze, a ruined tower and 280 acres of parkland, as well as the house itself. There will be two hours or so to explore the property and have lunch. There is a tea room and picnic tables in the grounds. Entry to Gray’s Court is free to National Trust members or £18 for non-members.
After leaving Gray’s Court, the second half of our walk takes us through grand beech woodland as we make our way back to Henley. There will be an opportunity for drinks in the secret garden at the Row Barge Pub to make the most of the long summer day before returning to the station.
