The Rhymney Riverside walk winds for 32 miles along the floor of the river through the steep sided glacial valley to the flatter wider valley further south.
The river flows east after Llanbradach through a flatter wider valley before turning south again after Machen to Cardiff. We walk this section from Machen to Llanbradach. Past the preserved Machen Iron Forge and riverside path to Waterloo and through the Riverside Park at Trethomas to the old bridge at Bedwas. We deviate from the trail which passes through industrial/urban areas and instead ascend to the ancient church of St Barrwg's and follow the old rail line to rejoin the trail on paths near the river to Llanbradach.
Bus time changed; Caerphilly Bus station (next to the railway station). No. 50. Bus stand 6 leaves at 9.48 to Machen (church/War memorial opposite the Co-op) 10.08.
