Overview

A linear journey from Ystradowen to Tarfan y Garreg, crossing the southern reaches of the Black Mountain area. The route begins in Ystradowen, just north of the Swansea Valley, following quiet tracks towards the old limeworks of the Upper Twrch area. From there, it traverses reclaimed opencast land in search of the wild expanse of the Giedd Forest. Leaving the forest behind, the path continues across open country to the bomber crash site on Carreg Goch, before descending to the caves of Dan yr Ogof.

This walk requires us to car share - the drive to the start of the walk is around 5 miles from the meet point at the Tarfan y Garreg.
