Check out the Hengoed viaduct from the station before following the redundant Taff Vale Extension rail track, now a walk/cycle way to Parc Penallta, a former mining area, transformed into an extensive maturing countryside park with numerous tracks/paths and excellent views of the valleys - includes a large earth sculpture, Sultan the Pit Pony. Opportunity to visit nearby Colliers cafe at their Adventure Farm before returning to Ystrad Mynach railway station.
Catch Cardiff Central Train 09.22 or stations between - buy return ticket to Hengoed. Leader joins at Heath High Level 09.30.
