Linear walk along the Penicuik to Eskbank stretch of the former Edinburgh - Peebles railway line. The gentle gradient and nature of the route allows easy access for the walker to enjoy the landscapes and attractions of this part of the county of Midlothian. Since the closure of the railway line in 1967, nature has created a wildlife corridor and taken over the former railway embankments with an abundance of ferns rushes and mosses, especially in the vacant spaces and gaps on walls and old platforms. Remember bus pass if you have one for outward journey - or bus accepts bank card for bus fare. We return by train to Galashiels from Eskbank Railway Station. Trains depart every half hour from Eskbank and journey back to Galashiels is around half an hour. Train fare can be paid by bank card at the station or on train (£8.30 single or £5.45 if you have a railcard).
