This walk starts and finishes in Hertfordshire, but for much of our journey we spend our afternoon in Bedfordshire. We meet in Pirton on the Great Green opposite the Motte & Bailey public house. We set off in a northerly direction towards Shillington. We are soon able to see All Saints Church in the distance, which is a notable landmark which sits on a dome of chalk at the top of the village. The Norman Church is built of Greenstone a local stone, hopefully the church will be open for viewing. On reaching Shillington we then head towards the Model Farm before heading towards Apsley End, before taking the path back in the direction of Rectory Farm while taking in the views of Deacon Hill the edge of the Chiltern Hill’s, before returning for refreshments at the Motte & Bailey.
No need to pre-book or contact the leader in advance. If already a Ramblers member, please just bring your Ramblers card (or membership details on the app) to help speed up the Ramblers register before we start the walk. Due to harvesting and livestock, alterations may have to be made to the walk on the day. Dogs will have to be on a lead when approaching livestock.
