This figure of eight walk has at its centre two remarkable waterfalls, Pistyll Cain and Rhaeadr Mawddach. We begin the walk by ascending a made up footpath to reach a forest track, after a short while we cross several paths and tracks to ascend a marked path where the ancient farm of Cefndeuddwr (Ridge between two waters) can be seen across the fields. The two waters are the Afon Mawddach and Afon Eden. At the top of this path we reach another forestry track to then turn left to begin the ascent and descent towards Pistyll Cain. This is a very slippy path and care and attention needs to be paid to each step!! On reaching Pistyll Cain it is only a short walk to Rhaeadr Mawddach. After admiring these during our coffee break we head north east along a forestry track turning right to ascend towards Hafod Fraith. At this point we reach a very special footpath that has been cleared by our own Meirionnydd Rambler’s Volunteer Footpath Maintenance Group!! The path is quite extensive ending at Cwm-Heisian-Uchaf, on a special ramp constructed by our volunteers to avoid a deep drainage ditch. We return to the waterfalls where we begin an ascent following the Afon Gain towards the ancient settlement of Tyddyn Gwladys. The forestry track flattens out and we descend towards the visitor centre and the end of our walk.
