This is an approximately 9 mile/4.5 hour walk (we can be flexible) starting in the car park just beyond Mancini's Cafe at Prestwick beach. We will walk along the beach to the Pow Burn, before turning inland to cross the bridge and pass Prestwick Holiday Park, where we can have a coffee break. Tide permitting we will follow the beach all the way to Troon promenade and along the promenade past the Kiosk (currently closed, but there are Portacabin toilets available) and have lunch at the front in Troon. We will retrace our steps along the promenade, past the Marine Hotel and into the Royal Troon golf course. We will follow a clear Tarmac road through the golf course back to Prestwick Holiday Park and then return to Prestwick by a road alongside Prestwick golf course. There are some muddy paths after the recent heavy rain.
Meet at East Ayrshire Council car park at 9 am for a 9.15 am departure. The walk leaders will meet you in the car park just beyond Mancini's Cafe and the walk will start at 9.45 am. The round trip journey is 26 miles.
By car follow the A77 towards Ayr and then follow signs for Prestwick Airport. Carry on into Prestwick and turn seaward at the sign for the Railway Station. Carry on past the station and Mancini's Cafe and follow the road round to the right where there is lots of parking.
By train, turn right on leaving Prestwick Town station and walk down the road to the sea. Mancini's Cafe is on the right.
Please let the walk leaders know if you are planning to go directly to Prestwick.
