This is a very scenic and varied figure-of-eight walk with hills, woods, fields, streams, ponds, waterfalls and distant views if the weather is good. There are a few short, steep and rough climbs in the total ascent of about 950 feet but the half dozen or so stiles have all been replaced with simple step-over versions. It is mostly good underfoot but there are a couple of places that can get messy in heavy rain.
We will have a brief stop for refreshments after about 3 miles when we have completed the long initial climb. We then descend via Dimmingsdale back to the Ramblers Retreat for a lunch stop. Lunch can therefore be left in cars or sandwiches, etc can be obtained from the RR.
After lunch, we have a further 2 1/2 mile walk with a steep climb up Toothill then descent on the outskirts of Alton and a return to our cars at RR along the disused railway line.
Please let the leader know if you intend to join this walk.
