The second in a series of "Really Get To Know" a smaller than usual area of interest with a maze of footpaths which nonetheless offer a varied walking experience.
Whiteleaf Hill and Brush Hill are on the Chilterns Chalk Escarpment and both nature reserves are managed by the Chilterns Society. The National Ridgeway Trail passes through both sites.
Whiteleaf Cross is a prominent landmark (the huge chalk cross on Whiteleaf Hill is etched into the grass facing toward Princes Risborough and Chinnor Hill and visible from miles around.) Whiteleaf Hill also has a neolithic barrow and WW1 practice trenches.
Brush Hill has a mixture of woodland and chalk grassland with wild flowers. It attracts, among other species, rare butterflies and glow-worms.
The Plough at Cadsden is a focal point for several footpaths which weave their way around Giles Wood, Ninn Wood and the valley between the woods called The Hangings.
We will also walk the footpath which passes through neighbouring Whiteleaf cricket ground and golf course to add variety.
Please wear appropriate footwear, especially if it has been wet previously.
Please be warned, this is a hilly walk, there are steep gradients both up and down.
We intend to stop for a drink at the famous Plough at Cadsden which opens on Saturdays at 11am
Well behaved dogs are allowed.
