We walk the edges of fields behind the houses then go up the concrete track to Coppice Wood, where mustard gas bombs were filled and stored by USAAF in WW2. Part of the wood is still fenced off due to contamination.
We then take field edges and a cross-field path to Melchbourne; passing through Hillands Plantation and Worley's Wood, taking tracks towards the Activity Centre (pops and bangs will probably be heard) and follow a field edge and track back to the village and the offerings of the Fox and Hounds.
We start our walks at 10.00am unless stated. Please arrive 15 minutes beforehand if you can. The duration of a walk includes time for drink and lunch breaks. Please ensure that you bring sufficient water, drinks and food (picnic lunch) to sustain you during the walks. Walk leaders will explain stops for drinks and lunch at the start of a walk.
Do consider the length of a walk, the weather and likely ground conditions to ensure you are fit enough and have appropriate footwear and clothing. If in doubt, contact the walk leader for advice.
Leaders make every effort to ensure your safety, but we expect members and guests to take care to minimise the risk of accidents.
All “Registered Assistance Dogs” are welcome on the walks with their owner. Please contact the walk leader.
