A walk through the land of the Ettrick Shepherd (James Hogg) and Isabella Richardson, the famous inn-keeper.
Starting on the Captain's Road, we follow the SUW. Passing Tibbie Shiel's Inn, we take a forestry road which climbs steadily for about a mile. We then switch to undulating grass paths, passing the lonely ruins of Riskinhope (once a shepherd’s home) before skirting the shoulders of Pikestone Rig and Peat Hill. After descending to the shoreline near Riskinhope Farm, we return along the eastern edge of the loch towards Tibbie Shiel's.
A mix of leisurely and strenuous sections, overall 'moderate'. Mostly good walking conditions, but may be muddy in places.
Refreshments are available at the Glen Café.
Registration limit: 15 walkers including leader & back marker (due to limited car parking).
