This is a walk of around 9 miles over 2 hills west of Peebles, both offering spectacular views. We meet at the Neidpath Road car park just off the A72, heading westward out of Peebles.
We walk through Hay Lodge Park before climbing up through Peebles golf course and Jedderfield to climb Hamilton Hill, which offers commanding views over Peebles itself as well as the surrounding hills in all directions.
From the summit, we descend easily to and along the Cross Borders Drove Road for about 2 miles before climbing steadily to the hillfort on White Meldon, for more long views across the Peebles-shire and Pentland Hills. We descend on easy slopes to cross the Meldon Burn and follow a minor road to the A72, which we cross to reach Lyne Station. From there we follow the old railway line and scenic riverside paths to return via Hay Lodge Park.
There will be a lunch stop and drink stops as required. Full hill-walking gear will be required. Peebles has a good range of post-walk refreshment options.
Circular walk, grade B, moderate. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
