A six-mile, fairly flat walk from Bridgend town centre along the River Ogmore to the ruins of Ogmore Castle where we'll stop for lunch. Crossing the stepping stones if the tide is low (if not, we can slightly re-trace our steps and use the nearby bridge), we pass through the pretty village of Merthyr Mawr before crossing several fields and heading back to Bridgend. We will end the walk in Newbridge Fields where there are picnic tables, a nearby café and often an ice-cream van!
There are several high stone stiles which dogs would need to be lifted over.
Bridgend train station is a ten-minute walk from the start point. The 10.13 train from Cardiff Central gets into Bridgend at 10.40 and there are plenty of trains back later in the day.
If anyone would like a lift from Cardiff, please let me know and I will try to arrange this.
