Overview

Approximately 6.25 mile circular walk from Roslin Chapel car park passing the Battle of Roslin monument and then up and down both sides of the Kill Burn before passing the Dryden Tower on the way to the Bilston Viaduct. We then walk towards the site of Maiden Castle (no castle - a late Bronze or Iron Age site) before returning along the river passing Hawthornden Castle (on the opposite bank) to the car park.

Some hills and muddy in places. Some descent of stairs with no handrail. Also some wooden planks in muddy places so gaiters and poles recommended. Bring seating mats as no public benches. If a sunny day (!) a cap could be helpful as walking into the low sun for a long part of the walk

Walk is suitable for all as you can choose to leave after the viaduct and return to the car park - walk is then approximately 4.5 miles.

Please note that there are no public toilets on the walk. The cafe at the chapel will normally allow some use of their facilities but they are not public toilets.
