From the village hall we head along to the railway station where, after crossing the line, we continue eastwards for a short while. A quiet track heads south passing on the way Goathland House, Partridge Hill and Birchwood Farm. The elevated track provides good views of Eller Beck below and, hopefully, views of steam trains.
On reaching the end of the track there is a short walk north along the road to Moorgates. where we continue northwards on a disused railway track for about a mile before heading east to the Mallyan Spout Hotel. At this point we will have covered 4 miles and anyone who wishes can shorten the walk and stroll the quarter of a mile back to the village hall. Otherwise, we will continue for another mile to Beck Hole for lunch. After lunch it is about another mile along a gentle ascent known as the 'incline' back to the village hall where tea and cakes will be served free of charge to those who have indicated their intention to partake of the refreshments.
The Ryedale group have hired the village hall which includes free parking.
Tea and cakes will be served free of charge once the longer 9 mile walk has returned, probably around 3pm. It is not necessary to have joined one of the walks to partake of the refreshments but whether walking or not please let John Motley know by text or email if you are staying for tea and cakes
