Overview

Sacombe to Burns Green via Watton at Stone, returning via Haultwick and Dane End.

Starting from the isolated Sacombe Church, we will walk along some rarely used and some entirely new tracks, but occasionally use sections of the Hertfordshire Way & Chain Walk. We will pass through Watton and take Blue Hill to arrive at Burns Green/Hebing End for a picnic and brief pub stop for a drink. Return via Haultwick & Dane End on lesser used paths.

Sacombe Church: Rough car park under trees adjacent to south side of St. Catherine's Church. From A602 (Ware-Watton road) turn North on the road towards Dane End ("Sacombe Pound" on Google Maps); after 1.3 miles, from Sacombe hamlet, take narrow Sacombe Green road east. After 300yds, turn right (S) up an even narrower tarmac road, with the Church tower visible ahead. Negotiate two sharp bends, L then R, and park alongside Church, just as road deteriorates into stony track. Do not attempt to approach from south through Sacombebury Park; track is too rough.
