Sheffield boasts 5 rivers and 7 hills and on this walk we enjoy one of each.
We follow the Porter Brook as it babbles along through Endcliffe Park and past Forge Dam and then tackle the climb up to Fulwood Head, rewarded by views across to some of the city's landmark buildings. From there it's mostly downhill from Ringinglow through the Limb Valley to Whirlow Brook Park. There's a final treat, grade 2 listed Whinfell Quarry Gardens, before we take the bus back to the city centre.
There are break-off points near Forge Dam (frequent buses from Fulwood) and from the Norfolk Arms ( a lone 181 bus at 1.37 pm).
We walk on riverside paths and country lanes and on tarmac through the parks. No stiles, just a couple of gaps in walls with stone steps up and down. Walking poles might help with the steep part of the climb.
