This is a walk between two stations on the Elizabeth Line: Shenfield to Brentwood via Ingrave. The route passes though fields and woods with some road walking at the beginning and end. The second half of the walk is through Thorndon Country Park: 230 acres of ancient forest, parkland and ponds. We will stop for lunch at Thorndon Country Park visitor centre where there is a cafe serving drinks, sandwiches and a limited selection of hot food. There is also a picnic area if you prefer to bring a sandwich.
Meet at Shenfield just outside the ticket barriers at 10.30 There is a train to Ipswich from Liverpool Street at 10.02, arriving at Shenfield at 10.24.
This is a joint walk with London Blind Ramblers. Sighted walkers will be asked if they are happy to guide a non-sighted walker. If you are happy to guide, you should ask your partner how they like to be guided and then make sure to tell them about kerbs and steps as you approach them, and say whether they go up or down, and mention any potential hazards that lie ahead such as overhanging branches, and say where they are.
If you would rather not act as a guide, that is absolutely fine. You are still very welcome to join the walk.
So I can make sure we will have enough guides, it would be very helpful if you could let me know if you plan to come on this walk.
There are toilet facilities at Shenfield and at the Thorndon Park Visitor Centre where we stop for lunch.
There is one stile to negotiate, otherwise the walk is mostly flat and easy going.
