WALK DESCRIPTION: This walk includes three parks, one hill and a long canal tunnel. Total distance is between 4.5 and 5 miles, with 790 ft total ascent. We commence by walking up Rough Hill, passing the telecoms towers above Rowley Regis. We then descend via Dudley Golf Course to The Knowle. All these paths are earthen, and there is one stile on the way. After a short walk through a built up area, we access the Warrens Hall Local Nature Reserve, joining the Canal and the Monarchs Way. We have a short break in the vicinity of Cobbs Engine House, and we then proceed via Netherton Tunnel. The tunnel is 1.72 miles long and is not lit, so bring a torch if you can. The footpath is sound but there are numerous unavoidable puddles 1 or 2 inches deep. Waterproof footwear is recommended. The route is not recommended for anyone who is claustrophobic. After the tunnel we ascend to a short section of road walking to reach Tividale Park (we pass a pub -The Wonder - en route, which we might use for a drink stop if attendees wish). Finally we walk through Tividale Park to regain the A4123 and catch a 126 bus for our return journey. Walk Leader; John Chapman, Telephone; 0121 449 7225 or 0750 561 7458.
