Overview

C WALK DESCRIPTION: 7 miles. Ascent 874 ft. Landranger map 119 Buxton, Matlock and Dove Dale area. Outdoor Leisure 24 map. The Peak District. White Peak Start of walk grid reference 339530. From the layby on A6 we follow the disused Cromford Canal tow path for just over a mile. We then start the steady climb to the highest point of the walk which is the memorial tower to the members of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment who died in World War 1. Before reaching the tower we will take a short break. The footpath levels at disused Cliff quarry.  At the tower we will have a picnic lunch. There is also a cafe. There is an optional climb of the tower which is well rewarded by 360 degree far reaching views. The rest of the walk is a steady descent back to Cromford Canal. On our way to Crich we pass the Tramway Museum. We take a break in Crich at The Old Black Swan pub. We leave Crich via Tors ridge and continue downhill through Crich Chase woods as far as Cromford canal. The canal tow path takes us back to the layby.
