Walking in and around Birmingham
We are an ethnically diverse group with a mature membership that is young at heart and welcoming to all. Although most of our members live in the Birmingham area, we are an outward-looking group. This means our walking programme extends well beyond the urban districts, with walks in The Cotswolds, the Peak District, Shropshire, Herefordshire, Staffordshire, Gloucestershire, and so on.
But not to shun our local environment we also have short walks in parks and country areas nearer to home. We arrange around six walks each month, a mix of easy local walks and a choice of longer walks starting by coach from Birmingham.
Over the last few years, we have encouraged and welcomed many new walkers of all ages and abilities and are pleased to say that new ramblers frequently comment on the welcome they receive from our friendly regulars.
Our walking community
The benefits of joining our group are the enjoyment of social walking and the wide choice of walks on offer: Short 3 to 4-mile strolls accessible by public transport on Thursdays and Saturdays, to longer, more demanding walks of between 7-12 miles by coach from Birmingham city centre on Sundays and Wednesday 7-mile walks with a pub lunch.
You’re very welcome to try walking with us - and what a great way to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness!
Our short walks might be at The Lickey Hills Country Park, Sutton Park, Waseley Hills, along the Rivers Rea and Cole, or local parks such as Cannon Hill. Canal walks and more all feature in our easy walking programme. Or try our longer countryside walks at The Cotswolds, Shropshire, Peak District and more, all less than two hours’ coach journey from Brum!
