Overview

This is a glorious circular walk over the South Downs to the photogenic village of Singleton with its pretty pub (conveniently half way round!) Half the walk is through woodland, half in open country with views over the valley and beyond which are genuinely stunning.

There is one section of the Drover estate where tall grass may conceal nettles an brambles, but other than that it should be fairly easy walking. The few stiles have recently been replaced with gates. Please bring a picnic; we may stop at The Partridge Inn in SIngleton for a drink but they do not do snacks and there will not be time for a sit-down meal. Just before the end of our walk Hill Barn, on the South Downs Way offers ice cream, drinks and snacks or there is the Bluebell Inn just outside Cocking.

The walk begins at Cocking Hill car park (W3W mammals.backtrack.exits)This is on the west side of the A286 Midhurst-Chichester road, approx 0.6 miles south of Cocking. Look for a crossing track with a fingerpost and a sign to a farm shop. If coming from the north, it is on the right, just past a bus stop. PLEASE NOTE: This is an isolated car park, you are advised to leave your car visibly empty.
