This is a 12 mile walk, starting from the National Trust owned Smallhythe Place (home of the Ellen Terry Museum), which is located on the outskirts of Tenterden, in Smallhythe
Setting off across fields, we rise slightly to reach Wittersham, where on arrival at the church, we join the High Weald Landscape Trail to eventually reach the River Rother. At this point we will be walking along the Sussex Border Path, before we meet another named trail, the Saxon Shore Way, as we ascend Stone Cliff to reach Stone in Oxney.
There will be a lunch stop at the church, before we continue, to visit the the eerie gravestones at Chapel Bank, where the old Ebony church was originally situated, these gravestones include members of the famous local acting Sinden family. Our route for the final stretch concludes alongside the Reading Sewer, but don't worry there is nothing unsavoury about it!
Although a fairly low level route, with very little in the way of ascent, conditions could be muddy if there has been a rainy spell beforehand, and of course it is the end of November!
