We are the East Berkshire Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
This penultimate section of the South Downs Way is a challenging 11-miler with a total ascent of 1336ft, taking us from Southease, almost at sea level, up to Firle Beacon at 710ft. The route descends into Alfriston, where it joins the Vanguard and continues into Exceat, our entry point into the Seven Sisters Country Park. But that's for our next coach walk!
Our coach will depart from the Shire Horse pub, Littlewick Green, promptly at 9am. The journey to Southease will take approx 2 hours and we will stop for a short comfort break on the way. Please arrive wearing your walking boots. Spare shoes can be left in the coach’s luggage compartment.
Once on our walk, we will stop after 3-4 miles for lunch and at least once more for a 'banana' break. Please bring enough food and drink for the day as there will be nowhere to stop and shop once on the Downs.
Our coach will meet us at Exceat for the return journey of around 2 hours, including a comfort break. We should be back at the Shire Horse between 18:30 and 19:00, depending on traffic.
Our meeting point is the Shire Horse pub on the A4, half a mile west of the A4/A404 junction. Please park in the Shire Horse car park, in the area furthest away from the pub, and arrive in plenty of time for a 9am departure by coach.
