Starting near to Swanbridge Cross in the village of Sully, the walk will head under the old Penarth to Barry railway line, through Cog Farm before entering Cosmeston Country Park. It will the proceed through Old Cogan woods and the site of the ancient village to St. Peter's Church for a coffee/lunch stop. Walking back through the park to the visitor centre, the route skirts the east side of the park and past the main lake.
After a short break, we go past the medieval village of Cosmeston, through Lavernock to Swanbridge. There is an optional visit across the tidal causway to visit Sully Island with its views along the heritage coast. The final leg is back to Sully via the sports club recreational fields.
Te crossing to Sully Island is across a stone causeway and care must be taken if the rock surface is wet from the outgoing tide. The crossing will only be made if the weather is deemed suitable. If any walkers decide not to cross to the Island for any reason, there is a cafe and pub on the mainland where they can await the return of those who have decided to make the crossing.
Start walk from lay-by opposite the Sully Sports and Social Club. Direct buses from Cardiff Penarth and Barry stop directly outside the start point/club. CF64 5SP
