Overview

A walk to view sunflowers across a steep valley and from close up.

From Bignor Hill car park follow the South Downs Way westward to a steep descending track where there is a view of sunflower fields across the valley. At the bottom of the descent cross the A285 road. Cadence Café is here, though not our stopping point (2mi).  There is an unguided option to retrace steps back to the car park, giving a total of 4mi, possibly after a coffee here.

Picnic Yes

Assistance dogs only

From the road ascend steeply through the sunflowers; from the top of the slope we can look back at them from above. Leave the SDW (3mi), descend gradually passing around the edge of a quarry back to the A285 road (4mi). The remainder of the route is undulating downland path, passing Barlavington Down (5mi) and Glatting Beacon and with good views over the Arun valley (and further views of the sunflower field).
