The Three Castles Path is a 60 mile trek from Windsor Castle to Winchester Great Hall. The Path is based on the 13th Century journeys of King John around the time of the Magna Cartna. It is so named as it passes the castles of Windsor, Odiham, and Winchester. Sadly, only Windsor Castle remains intact to the present day, with Odiham Castle currently a ruin and Winchester Castle destroyed completely with the Great Hall marking its location. We take a 6 part journey retracing history - our journey will pass the towns of New Alresford, Hartley Wintney, Ascot, Sandhurst and Bracknell as well as numerous villages.
We begin Part One of our Three Castles journey from Windsor heading from the station to the Long Walk before skirting the Royal School and joining Duke’s Lane. We will then make our way to Cheapside to have lunch and stop at the Thatched Tavern for a quick drink.
After the pub stop we continue towards Ascot passing the Racecourse and Englemere Pond towards Bracknell Forest. We then pass Swinley Park and make our way to Martin’s Heron station where we conclude our first leg of our trek.
If coming from Reading, please get the 9:12 getting into Slough at 9:32 and change here to get the 9:50 to Windsor and Eton Central (single journey). Note that if you are driving and parking in Windsor, there is no direct line between Martin’s Heron and Windsor. The only option would be to go via Reading once the walk concludes to get back to your car. Please also note that the line from Windsor and Eton Riverside to Staines is closed on this day.
