Overview

This is circular walk through the lovely and historic countryside around Ticknall and Foremark.

We will start from the car park at Ticknall village hall.

The first section of the walk will use the Calke Abbey trails travelling via the lime pits and moving on to Staunton Harold reservoir. We will then skirt the edge of Melbourne and move across country through St Brides, Robin Wood and Heath Wood on a mixture of forestry and field paths.

The final part of the walk will take us through the grounds of Foremarke Hall and on to St Saviour's Church before returning to Ticknall.

  • St Bride's Farm stands on the site of a Norman chapel.
  • Heath Wood is a scheduled ancient monument.  It was the site of a Viking cemetery linked to the Great Army and was excavated in 1998 - 2000.
  • Foremarke Hall is a grade 1 Georgian mansion, now occupied by the Repton prep school.
  • St Saviour's is a historic grade 1 parish church built in 1662.
