Join me on this walk that provides glimpses of the past, present and future around the Ibstock area. The changes taking place may be good or bad dependent on your view, but as the changes evolve, it is safe to say, the views in this area are changing forever, however new (but smaller) green spaces are being created.
We start by leaving Ibstock along the length of Pretoria Road, passing the brickworks and it’s two associated clay workings. We then circle the Amazon warehouse and pass by the huge new development off Beveridge Lane before passing through the Penny Wakefield Community Woodland to have a stop in Ellistown.
Leaving Ellistown we follow the National Forest Way to Donington le Heath, with it’s 1620s house, Kelham Bridge nature reserve and in to Sence Valley Forest park, a transformed open cast coal mine, for our lunch stop.
Finally we return to the start through recently planted woods and new and old footpaths through Ibstock.
Toilets may be available at Sence Park (but at the time of writing they are currently closed)
Refreshments are available at the morning break and weather dependent at lunch unfortunately neither stop has shelter.
Parking is on road, please park considerately.
Debrief will be in the Waggon and Horses
