A moderate paced Sunday stroll of which the first couple of miles pass along the banks of the river Medway and then head to the village of Hadlow - and past its impressive 175 feet tall Victorian gothic tower. From then we pass through the picturesque Fairlawn Estate and on to the medieval manor house of Ightham Mote, then climb the greensand ridge where we will be treated to some stunning views of the High Weald (providing the weather is favourable) and pass through Knole Park when hopefully the sun will be beginning to set and we should see the resident deer settling down in their chosen spots for the evening, and we will finally finish at Sevenoaks High Street.
Bring a packed lunch - the intention is for the lunch stop to be at Dunks Green at around 8 miles distance where there is a green to sit on and a pub opposite (for drinks only), and there will also be a quick mini break at Ightham Mote at around 10 miles distance where there is a cafe and public toilets. However if it is a particularly wet day, then the main lunch stop will be Ightham Mote instead where we can take shelter from the rain.
The walk is mainly flat, with some just some moderate ascents in the final third making up the total ascent of just over 350 metres. Pub at the end of walk.
Travel: Take the 9:39 from London Cannon Street (London Bridge: 9:43, Sevenoaks 10:07) arrive at Tonbridge at 10:16.
Meet just outside the ticket barriers of the exit to the side at the end of platform 3 (the same platform that the train will stop at) to the side of the steps - NOT the main entrance of the station.
Buy a return to Tonbridge.
