A lovely Chilterns walk through ancient woodland, meadows, commons, along a canal towpath, through the Ashridge Estate - with some fine Chiltern views along the way.
This moderately paced 9.5 mile walk includes undulating terrain & areas of level walking.
Route: The start follows the narrow towpath of the Grand Union Canal before heading off through undulating terrain to the Ashridge Estate from which we continue through light woodland and across a golf course before our lunch stop at Little Gaddesden; after lunch we go through the attractive Golden Valley, past Ashridge House before entering Frithsden Beeches and Berkhamsted Common; then gently downhill to pass by the remains of trenches dug for training purpose during World War 1 before finishing the walk in Berkhamsted.
Lunch: at Little Gaddesden - please bring picnic. Refreshment available at the Bridgewater Arms in the village. Pub/tea shop opportunities at end of walk in Berkhamsted.
Meet at Tring Station at 10.25. (No toilets at Tring Station)
Travel: London Euston at 09.38/Harrow & Wealdstone 09.51 - West Midlands train to Tring - arr 10.21.
Ticket/Fare: Off-Peak Return to Tring £23.10/Railcard £15.20/SRC+FP £9.35.
