Vale of White Horse Ramblers are a friendly group who walk mid-week and weekends in southern Oxfordshire. Highlights are the Ridgeway, the Thames Path, and the Uffington White Horse.
A walk of almost 12 miles and 800 feet of ascent. Meet at Bridge End Dorchester to set off by 9.15 am in car share to Blewbury (estimated arrival at 9.45am). Please arrive with no more than 2 walkers per car to facilitate car share at both ends of the walk.
In Blewbury we head out to Churn Hill to commence St Birinus Way near Churn Knob with great views across the route we will take. We walk through part of old Blewbury, past Blewburton Hill and across the fields to South Moreton. We then cross to Brightwell-cum-Sotwell before heading over the Sinodun Hills and descending to Little Wittenham and down into Dorchester, finishing at the Abbey. We will pass a number of churches on the way but will only visit a few briefly during our stops for refreshments. Please bring a picnic lunch, snacks and drinks. Assistance Dogs only. The walk is expected to end at Dorchester Abbey at 4pm. We will then walk back to the cars parked in Dorchester and return to Blewbury to reunite first leg drivers with their cars – estimated by 4.30 pm.
