This will be our first walk of the Llŷn Peninsula section of the Wales Coastal Path. It’s a flat yet varied section along the tidal Menai Straight to the walled town of Caernarfon and its spectacular medieval castle.
This initial stretch along Menai’s wooded shores passes the Menai Suspension Bridge, the tidal ‘Swellies’ and Pont Britannia, before looping through the Vaynol Estate. The route then follows the Lôn Las cycleway and recreational route that runs roughly parallel with the Straight, passes the Plas Menai National Watersports Centre, and continues to the walled town of Caernarfon and its stunning medieval castle - now recognized as a World Heritage Site.
To take advantage of the limited daylight, we'll be getting an early train from Shrewsbury at 07:26 which will get us into Bangor at 09:41.
There is not a train from Caernarfon back to Bangor, but the 5C bus runs every 20 minutes so we should easily be able to catch that back to Bangor Station where we can get the train back to Shrewsbury.
